Baggage Claim Counselling

Hi, I’m Matteo!

I’m the Registered Social Worker behind Baggage Claim Counselling. I picked the name intentionally. Many of us end up carrying bags we never packed, and therapy is a good place to unzip them, see what’s inside, and figure out what’s actually yours to keep.

I’ve worked in addictions and mental health since 2017. Something I love about the job is that people still surprise me. I love having the often uncomfortable conversations most people want to avoid: sex, substance use, shame, relationships that don’t follow a script, and that weird feeling when everything looks great on paper but you still feel off.

Social work has shaped how I see all of it. Who you are today isn’t only about what happened in childhood. It’s also the world you grew up in: your culture, your communities, and the systems that made some things easier for you and others harder. I like making room for all of it.

In session, I’m relational, curious, and pretty real. I use parts work (Internal Family Systems -informed, currently completing IFS Level 1 training), pay attention to what your body is telling us, and take a harm reduction approach: we start where you are, not where you think you should be.

What you can expect in the room with me; warmth, honesty, tough but freeing conversations, the occasional laugh, and I promise I won’t hand you a worksheet in the first five minutes. I offer sessions in English or Spanish.
