Rachel Lingnau (They/Them), Registered Provisional Psychologist
New Perspectives Psychology
Hello and welcome! I am so glad you’re here.
My name is Rachel Lingnau (they/them), and I am a Registered Provisional Psychologist in Edmonton, Alberta. I have been working in the mental health field, in various roles, for about 5 years now, and I am so excited to move into the world of private practice. It has been my honour and privilege to work with people of all backgrounds over the years, and I am so grateful to be able to provide support to those who seek it! I have always been passionate about mental health care and truly enjoy walking alongside others on their path to self-discovery, healing, and growth.
In therapy, I tend to take quite an integrative, person-centered approach. I think collaboration is such a key aspect in therapy, and I always strive to create an inclusive, respectful, and welcoming environment, where you can come as you are. It is also important to me to show up to sessions as my authentic self, because if I can’t do that, how can I ever expect you to, right? When it comes to therapy, I do not believe in a “one-size-fits-all” approach. You are a unique person and are the expert on yourself. As such, I want to ensure we work together to determine what works best for you. Therefore, I will frequently pull from multiple different approaches, and adapt my therapeutic style to work with you in a way that best supports you in your therapeutic goals and journey.
I am currently accepting new clients for in-person (in Edmonton only) and virtual sessions. I offer a complimentary 45-minute consultation for all new clients so that we can get to know one another! During our consultation, we can talk about what brings you to therapy, any hopes and worries you might have about therapy, and overall get a feel for if we’re a good fit and what it would be like to work together. I also like to use our consultation time to determine if my skill set really matches what you are looking for in order to ensure you get the best possible care.

Personal Interests:
Anybody who knows me knows that I am a huge introvert, but also that I can be a bit of a chaos gremlin hahaha! I absolutely love spending time reading, listening to music, and watching too many shows and movies (right now I’m on a major anime kick, so any recommendations are fully welcome). Although it's a bit of an expensive hobby, I also truly enjoy getting new piercings and tattoos whenever I am able to.
Through my own journey, I have come to truly believe that it is so important to listen to yourself and what your mind, body, and soul are in need of in order to best nurture yourself! Although I must admit balance has never been my thing, I have embraced chaotic self-care, changing how I care for myself depending on what I need in the moment. This can mean swinging wildly from napping, to exercising, to eating sweet treats, to doing things I enjoy, to spending time with people, to embracing my inner hermit, or whatever else I need to feel my best.
