Braveheart Counselling & Mediation
Hello! I’m Valerie, a Registered Social Worker, Canadian Certified Counsellor, and Registered Clinical Counsellor with advanced training in couples counselling, family counselling, and mediation work. I am a lifelong observer of human connection.
I founded Braveheart Counselling & Mediation with the belief that courage in connection—with ourselves and others—is the foundation for change. I believe that courage and compassion can coexist—even in conflict—and that meaningful change happens when we understand ourselves in relationship to others. My path into this work grew from a deep curiosity about what helps people heal after disconnection, shame, or loss of trust. Over the years, I’ve supported individuals, couples, and families navigating relational burnout, high-conflict dynamics, co-parenting stress, ADHD-related challenges, and identity transitions (basically, if it involves relationships, emotions, or complex humans—I’m in my element).
Clients often say they appreciate the mix of reflection and structure in our work—sessions feel both thoughtful, grounded and forward-moving. You can expect sessions that balance insight with structure, helping you move from reactivity toward clarity, choice, and connection.
Whether you’re an individual steadying yourself through change, a couple stuck in repetitive conflict, rebuilding a relationship, or seeking calmer co-parenting, our work focuses on strengthening your capacity for courage and meaningful connection. My aim is to support growth that feels compassionate, sustainable, and aligned with the relationships you want to build.
My practice blends Relational Life Therapy (RLT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), The Gottman Method, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), all through a trauma-informed and systemic lens. In practice, that means we map patterns, understand what drives them, and practice new ways of relating that feel authentic and effective. I work with individuals, couples, and families in person across Calgary, and virtually throughout Alberta and British Columbia.
