This is an introductory VIRTUAL workshop for therapist who are interested in or wanting to better support bereaved parents and will include a lived experience panel of bereaved parents
October 16 2026 @ 12:00 - 2:00 pm MST
*disclaimer: this is a more introductory not an in depth comprehensive workshop on perinatal/postnatal mental health; this workshop is presented by: 1) Meg Hasek-Watt, R. Psych, Calgary, AB who volunteers with Hazel's Heroes (a bereaved mom’s retreat funded largely through SIDS Calgary), is a legacy supporter and community friend to Pregnancy & Infant Loss Support Centre (PILSC), as well as works with bereaved parents in her private practice, and 2) Jennifer Giffin, Registered Counselling Therapist -Candidate, Halifax, NS, is a former oncology nurse and bereaved mom to Ollie; founder of Oliver's Offerings and therapist offering supports to fellow bereaved parents - we created this to help therapists learn more about what bereaved parents have shared with us directly as to what has been helpful or harmful in terms of mental health supports (eg. things people have said or done) after loss.
As well, with the lived experience panel, participants will be able to hear directly from bereaved parents to increase empathy, understanding and awareness of what a bereaved parent may be experiencing as they move through loss (eg. logistics, reality checks, medical trauma/matters, logistics of planning a funeral, what was helpful or not - what to say or not say). Many bereaved parents have shared that they have contributed to helping medical professionals as example to learn more about walking the path of a bereaved parent which they report has then lead to meaningful changes in how the medical field responds to child loss.
Note: the bereaved parents panel will be comprised of parents with similar and different child loss experiences (panel is to be confirmed).
